This course is for those who wish to gain employment as an Armed Security Officer. Armed Security personnel, uniformed or not, must possess a “Class 1” endorsement on their state pistol permit, aka “Blue Card” as dictated in accordance with CT Gen. Stat. §29-161z.

A Connecticut Pistol Permit and Connecticut Security Officer ID card (Guard Card) are required to obtain a Blue Card.

Students must qualify with the firearm they will carry in the course of duties.

*Please Note: As of October 1, 2004, all Armed Security Officers are required to qualify on a yearly basis with the firearm that they will be using in the course of duty. Documentation, obtained during an annual qualification class, must be supplied to the Special Licensing & Firearms Unit. Failure to qualify annually will result in a revocation of your “Blue Card/Class 1” permit.

Course content includes:

·   Understanding CT Firearm laws relative to the use of force in self-defense;

·         Legal justification for the use of force;

·         Alternatives to the use of deadly force;

·         Course fees include targets and safety equipment and classroom handouts/materials;

·         Ammo is NOT included;

·         You will need 50rds for qualification;

·         If you would like to add an additional firearm(s), each firearm will be an additional $25 fee;

·         You are allowed 2 opportunities to pass the shooting qualification course of fire. After two attempts, there is a $25 fee each time you wish to reattempt qualification.

·         Qualification course of fire includes a variety of shooting positions and distances from 10 to 50 feet, including the use of one-handed shooting techniques, offhand shooting, and shooting from the kneeling position.

·         The use of a laser is prohibited during qualification.

·         Mandatory equipment:

o    Firearm to be used in the course of duties (duty style firearm, not a subcompact or micro pistol; revolves should be six shot with a 4” barrel)

o    Holster for the firearm

o    Three magazines or two speed loaders

o    Magazine or speed loader pouch

o    Working knowledge of your firearm
